Juniors & Youth

Juniors (13 to 16 years) and Youth (16 to 19 years)

Many of our teenage members represent our club in regional and national surf lifesaving sports competitions. Some have even made the British team representing the country in international competitions as far away as Japan, South Africa, Australia and Canada!

Many of our older youth members are qualified RNLI beach lifeguards, gaining their requisite qualifications through club-based training and experience. Members of 16 years and over are encouraged to work towards the NaRS Beach Lifeguard award required for employment as a professional beach lifeguard in the UK and abroad.

For junior members the soft foam equipment used by nippers is replaced by fibre-glass rescue boards, surf skis, paddle-boards and the rescue tube. Beach sports skills are also honed. Juniors are encouraged to work towards the range of awards appropriate to their age group.

All of our 13 – 16 year old Junior Squad can train & compete in

* Surf Ski
* Surf Rescue Board Paddling
* Surf Swimming
* Beach Events – flags & sprints
* Surfing

All juniors take part in club beach patrols during the summer peak weekends. There are opportunities for taking various surf life saving & first aid awards and from 16 years of age, Juniors can volunteer under the RNLI Beach Lifeguards programme to gain valuable work experience.

Many of our junior members go on to work as professional Lifeguards here and abroad, their time with us at Perranporth SLSC giving them the solid grounding which make our members exceptional watermen & women.
