PERRANPORTH SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB

Club Patrols 2008

Perranporth SLSC is a life saving club run by volunteers with the following aims:

l        preventing loss of life in the sea

l        providing a community service

l        training for all ages and abilities in life saving skills and related sports and fitness

l        having a great time on the beach and in the surf!

Our surf club has been meeting these aims for 51 years so has a long and proud tradition of which Club Patrols have been an essential element.

This year Club Patrols will have two main areas of activity:

l        Duty Weeks: assisting the general running of the club during the summer weeks

l        Beach Patrols: assisting the RNLI lifeguarding service on the beach at the height of the season

We encourage all club members to assist in the above – without you, we cannot be effective in anything we strive to achieve in the club.

If you need any advice or clarification on anything in this document, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the committee.

Have a great summer!

 Pete Whitbread-Abrutat

 Club Captain

DUTY PATROLS

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Duty Patrols is to assist the running of the club's activities during the busy summer months. Each patrol will be allocated two or three duty weeks, as shown in this document, and will be expected to assist in the activities outlined below.

Duty Weeks will commence on the Monday of each week.

 ACTIVITIES

1.      Provide extra instructors and water cover (if suitably qualified) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights according to the Summer Training Schedule. These evenings are already manned by regulars, but they are stretched and would be very grateful for help! (See below for details.)

Instructors and water cover required at following times:

Wednesday

Club Night

1900-2030

Thursday

Nippers

1830-2000

Friday

Ladies Training Night

1900-2000

2.    Fund-raising collections on local camp sites. As a club member we ask that you participate in at least one collection during the summer. The more money we raise, the more we can spend on our club facilities, training and equipment.

Precise details will be announced nearer the time, but the dates will be Tuesday 29th  July and August 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th.

3.    Clean the club. Tidy up rubbish, sweep, replace equipment, etc.

4.    Clean the beach and dunes – within 100m radius of the club. The state of our surroundings reflects on us, even when we know it isn't our mess. Let's set an example to others on our beach!
